Recently I saw The Darkest Hour – a segment of Winston Churchill’s life as he became Prime Minister, At the end of the film, he is quizzed about the fact that he kept changing his mind about the strategy to employ during World War II. He says the following…”Someone who doesn’t change his mind, doesn’t change anything.” I shared this recently with a colleague and he said – I don’t have trouble changing my mind…but how do I get rid of my negative thoughts.” I loved that he distinguished those functions. For sure if you mess with your thoughts, try to control your thoughts, try to get rid of your thoughts and on and on – you definitely cause yourself stress and strain and on top of it – it rarely works.
So what DO you do – well as I mentioned in the previous blog the feeling state is what you are paying attention too. Human beings have these beautiful feelings as part of their innate design. When you call up a feeling of love or appreciation or care your state of mind elevates and the thoughts go the way thoughts go…movin on. So if you are troubled by thoughts – leave them alone – go for the feeling and watch them dissolve.
