In the beginning of this work and its spread throughout mental health arenas, we referred to this as innate health. When I found this understanding, I had completed three years of intense therapy and was still not very happy. I was sure the events of my life. (widow at 25, lost my mother at 30, my best friend died of aids etc etc) were the causes of said unhappiness. And even though that made sense to me, it didn’t help me be any happier. This is something to notice – finding the cause outside of ourselves, does not remedy the situation. (Over 1,000 self-help books published monthly, and we are still miserable) – trying one thing after another. When I found this work and went to hear Syd Banks speak I didn’t understand anything he had to say. But I remember the thing he said that began this journey for me. He said “there is nothing wrong with you”…now remember it wasn’t the comment that changed things – it was that this time I heard and “SAW” something about my experience that was reflected in Syd’s words. We call that an insight and it begins the process of returning us to our innateness. I didn’t just want to believe that about myself, I knew on some level, that it was true.
Nowadays we refer to this as true nature – or our essential nature – prior to and beyond our personal thinking. The great intelligence provides us with this deeper understanding – and we notice that our natural state is one that includes joy, and love and ease and all that we need to deal with the events of life – including the events of my life mentioned above. What gets in the way of our experiencing that all the time – is very simply our thoughts and after years and years – our habitual thoughts.
Although some therapies now address that – (cognitive behavioral for instance) it is still dealing with exchanging thoughts – or focusing on the content of our thoughts. When we realize our true nature at deeper and deeper levels, we realize that we don’t need to focus on content, but look in a new direction. Look to who we really are, and the quality of our thought automatically shifts – our deeper feelings begin to show up. Yes, life is a contact sport as Syd so often said – but each and every time we avoid the trap of “life “(put in any name you want) did this to me- we experience more and more of what I am pointing to – and overtime our confidence rebuilds and we go back to our “original programming”.
