HAKUNA MATATA
“We are like Superman who must remain disguised as nerdy Clark Kent, or Harry Potter who is not allowed to do magic while on holiday.” Anton St. Maarten
My thoughts for this week’s blog basically follow the plot of The Lion King. Simba, tracked by his treacherous uncle Scar, flees into exile. Out of sheer guilt, he leaves his home and his rightful place as ruler of the kingdom. He has no clue who he really is.
That is us, on so many levels. Fearful of shadows, the future, mistakenly believing we are weak, and frail and doomed by the circumstances of our lives.
Like Simba, we deny our own identity as we slouch around in this weird, unnatural world.
In the movie, Rafiki eventually shows up to lead Simba to a reflection pool where he sees who he really is, a full-grown king, a hero with the power to set the world free.
If we too, come to know the truth of who and what we are, we can also be free. Like Simba, we can escape the bondage that predominates our world just now, and by changing that perspective of the world, release others with us. The new perspective that keeps appearing to me is a new birth – a new world – that will be kinder and gentler to all people. That all the things we are slogging through right now will bring a new connection- a deeper understanding without conflict – and of course , as I always say – Love beyond all measure.
So in a strange way we can be glad today – glad that we are a part of creating a new world, a new hope – not to return to what we knew, but to create something new.
Consider this week who you really are – not your personality – or life experiences, not your race or your gender – but who you truly are becoming – your greater yet to be. In this one thought, everything can change.
And like the theme of Timon and Pumbaa’s song, a problem-free philosophy, no worries for the rest of my days.
