Simple Miracles
In Northern California we are finally having fall…the mornings have a light chill, my trees out front are in full color, and the light is golden. After our horrendous fire season, and the chaos of world events, these simple things seem like a miracle. As I have written about insight and innovation, I have been watching for my own insights on a daily basis..(always a good idea to test your hypothesis). And true to this understanding, wherever my attention rests, becomes my experience. As I have watched for insights what I have seen are miracles – the miracles of daily living, the miracles of nature, the miracles of people and relationships – literally a waterfall of both insight (sight from within) and feelings – a cascade of joy and peace.
A friend, who is in the throws of a life change, didn’t have the warmest upbringing. She was challenged with an environment that didn’t have a lot of nurturing or encouragement. Recently she has taken on a more spiritual approach to her life. More ease and grace and compassion for herself with beautiful outcomes. The most recent of which was a phone call from her mom (previously not experienced as a warm person) who gave her love and support for the changes she is initiating…she asked me “ What is going on?” …in other words where did this miracle come from?
Miracles are so natural to the human experience – they are all around us and within us – but we are often (and perhaps especially lately) giving our attention to conflict – to upheaval – to dis-ease etc) instead of to the always remarkable change of seasons. To the always available friends and people offering their help. To the always unfolding of creativity …how to handle Halloween without going door to door or party to party…to the ever present opportunity to transform something. When your inner landscape is focused on the joy of small children…an idea will appear for handling Halloween. When your heart is on gratitude – you will see a sunrise that leaves you in awe. Though the world may appear troubled – our ability and capacity for greatness is never touched.
The photo of the icicle reminds me of one of my favorite miracles. Some years ago Masaro Emoto, a Japanese scientist, studied the effects of our feelings on water as it formed into ice. The energies of love and joy created the most miraculous formations of intricate beauty and wonder. Conversely the energies of anger and hate, produced the opposite. Wherever your attention is focused- so is the result. The insights from his study are so important to consider- do we effect everything around us and within us, is a great question to ponder this week. I have never seen icicles in quite the same way since I read his book – they are miracles of love even in the cold …beyond circumstances lies beauty. From Findhorn (look it up) to Mr. Emoto – we see that power that we each possess to experience the magic and majesty right under the surface of any appearance to the contrary.
The simplest of all miracles is one we can begin to employ immediately. It is so simple, I hesitate to even offer it…it feels hard…it feels impossible…it feels like we would be making ourselves wrong -or somehow not true to ourselves. And yet it is the doorway to an entirely new way of living…a solution to nearly every problem. That is the ability to CHANGE YOUR MIND…about anything and anyone…it takes a second and it is free. This week, I changed my mind about the fact that this is the hardest period in American history – to this is the biggest opportunity for something new – something loving to actually appear in great numbers. Needless to say, I was instantly in a state of greater peace. I may have to do it again and again- but luckily I have all the tools I need within.
Watch for your own miracles, change your mind about something that seems impossible – Join Einstein once again…”There are only two ways to live your life…as if nothing is a miracle or as if everything is a miracle.”
