The call to connect

Fortunately we live in a time of great technology.  These past months have brought us the power and the method of communicating around the world – seeing each other through mediums like Zoom and being able to attend classes, events, and even ceremonies from the comfort of our kitchen or den.  I am taking classes from a University that previously required you to attend only in person and in Los Angeles.  From what some call the Covid bonus, I am able to complete a program I deeply care about in a new way…making a way from no way.

At the same time, we can’t reach out and touch someone’s hand- or give them a hug, or drink from the same mug of hot cocoa.  This can feel like great communication with no connection.  Communication without connection is just information – useful perhaps but meaningful and life giving…not so much.  But the power to connect is still there- because that power is contained in each and every one of us.  The power of love is greater than any virus and certainly greater than any device or product.

It requires however that we be very present…daydreaming on Zoom is so visible …losing your train of thought while in this environment gives off those same non-verbals we have always had, without the ability to correct them with a touch or an embrace.

As winter seems about to approach here in the Sierras- the thought on my mind and heart is to stay deeply connected as we traverse this next phase.  Make a commitment to connect with someone who is distant from you weekly- and begin to practice your focus and intent with the use of your heart intelligence.  Before your call or video chat – be sure to picture them in your mind and recall a vivid memory of them that you love to reflect on.  Center in your heart and breathe through your heart for a few seconds.  As you begin your chat – welcome them in a larger way than you normally would in the same room-send out the love transmission from your heart to theirs as you speak.  Listen as if they were about to tell you where a buried treasure is located (and its 5 minutes from your home). Remember that this instant is all we have – the past is gone and the future is quite obviously uncertain.  So what we have is right now…this moment to reach out – to give love – laughter and caring.

I thought connection really wasn’t possible with this new way of sharing – that the flatness of my screen (no matter how large) would preclude me from feeling my friends and all they bring to my life – or to really helping clients without the benefit of physical presence.  I learned however, through one of the classes I took this summer – that it isn’t the method or even the bandwidth wavering..it is the heart centered approach with the intent of giving love.  I felt it from our instructor every class and forgot for moments at a time that he was not here with me.  It might take a little practice – but it is what we all need right now…love and connection.  Love is the way and Love is all there is.

Peace and blessings,
