It Is A Wonderful Life
It’s been nearly a year since I started this Blog with the same name as my favorite Christmas movie. I have watched it so many times, that I can nearly quote all the dialogue. I chose that title for my Blog because we were entering a time last winter when it looked like life was not so wonderful – and as the months have rolled by – it could seem even less wonderful. Frank Capra had quite an idea about what was really important in a life and wanted to make this movie that definitely brings joy, tears and from my husband, eye rolling.
George Bailey was always trying to work on something else – always trying to dream of the life he didn’t have – and he became both angry and despondent when it looked like everything he hoped for, was never going to happen. Yet while he was dreaming of that other life – the life he was actually living, was one giant gift after another. When he tells his angel, Clarence – that it would have been better if he was never born…Clarence gives him a tiny taste of what the world would have looked like without George Bailey.
Similarly for you and I – this year may seem like one that didn’t deliver on any hopes we had – and yet so many great things have happened – so many surprises – for me its included new friendships I didn’t expect and a new focus on serving in new capacities – I heard from long lost relatives I haven’t seen in years and was consistently reminded of the importance of love. I know many of you who read this blog every week and I have watched you create ways to connect – to value the small gestures and to realize how much hugging is needed when we can once again hug.
We have seen heroes emerge in our health care system and most recently given thanks for science and the rapid vaccine that is now among us. Each and every person who did the smallest thing this year, to make it easier, kinder and more tolerable is important to all the good that has transpired- and its time to realize that, appreciate that, and celebrate it …this is the season of giving and receiving and taking stock of all that we have received and all that we have given is a great Holiday gift to yourself.
Personally I wouldn’t mind a visit from Clarence myself – just the same I know there are angels among us – there is a divine consciousness rising like the Phoenix and I feel like George Bailey – the richest man in town, for all the relationships I have that make me rich and a better person.
Happy Holidays to my Possibility Posse – Teri, Julie, Blanka, Dee, Claire, Jana, Leslie, Storm, Victoria, Linda, Rosemary, Jason, Phil, Nicole, Alice, Lori, Carlton, and all of you who have read and commented on this blog.
