SPRING FORWARD

Dr. Michael Beckwith uses the life of a chick to describe the process of growth and development.  The chick is very happy inside of its cozy egg…it is warm and food is readily supplied and all needs are met for the chick to continue to develop.  Over time of course, the chick starts to grow and things start to get a little uncomfortable in the egg.  It’s getting a bit crowded and what once seemed cozy is now feeling a bit constrained…Then the elimination process starts to invade on the chick’s space and it finds itself now in its own well…poop.  The chick realizes to grow and reach its full potential it is going to have to go through an uncomfortable process.  A process that it has no idea where it’s going – or how it is going to turn out.  There doesn’t seem to be a roadmap or clear instructions. But somehow the chick knows to start pecking…and pecking and pecking…the chick follows its inner sense of knowingness and like it or not, it has to get out of that egg.

The chick clearly has trust that it is somehow going to work out…or perhaps doesn’t even question the imperative. We on the other hand, have often entered a period of inner growth and development with great reluctance, in my case, sometimes it was kicking and screaming.  More often than I like to think, I was not exercising trust.  I often thought I would reach a time in my life when I would not need any more growth…I would be fully developed and done.

This amazing universe we live in is ever expanding and growing – it is the design, and of course we can’t see where it is going.  WE need companions, we need guides at times, we need bucket loads of trust and we need to know, it is going to happen -we are not running the universe. And we also need to know, that in that design, all needs are met- that there is a beauty and an intelligence that pervades the egg as we peck through to our next greater yet to be.

This month’s blog is dedicated to Spring – to growth – to the ever glorious unfolding of our own unique contribution.  It doesn’t matter your age (good news) or your circumstances, (great news) or what you think..(thank God news)- the magnificent design of growth is the development of our soul and the joy it brings as it pops out of whatever egg we are currently in…So Spring Forward into the new – relax and release all worry, doubt and fear – and know who you really are.  Oh and this blog is dedicated to Jana with thanks; my posting assistant and lover of chicks and eggs!  Happy Easter and Happy Passover!
