Illusion or Truth
For many years, I went each spring to the northern coast of California and stared at the ocean for hours on end. Some of those hours would be at sunset and I would watch this large golden sun drop into the ocean. The appearance was just that – the sun went into the ocean. Of course, I knew better and thus was not fooled by the illusion.
Living near the deserts of Nevada is similar…you are sure you see water a short distance away from you – and as you get closer you realize there is no water…it is only a mirage…another type of illusion.
Our physical eyes and other senses do not report the truth-they can fool us into believing that what we see is true. I learned life is not always what it appears to be – thanks to the charisma of Tony Robbins and a good friend; I signed up for his fire walk. I had no intention of doing it – I just went along for the ride and for the fun of the evening. But as we drew closer to the time to walk, I decided what the heck. I remember having no fear – and left with bare feet intact (not even pink). The one thing Tony insisted on was that we not look down at our feet as we were walking. If I had focused my eyes on those extremely hot coals – I am not sure I would not have experienced the burn. The life lessons I took from that evening included the eyes can convince you of something that is illusionary – and believing is seeing (not the other way around,)
We have more power than we can possibly imagine in our thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. As we look out at events of our world or of our community or of our very inner circle – what are we seeing? What eyes are we looking with will depend on what we report. Harnessing that power has been a lifetime pursuit for me – and I have seen it literally create miracles right before my eyes. In a time such as this we need new eyes – we need new thoughts – we need to align our compass with Truth…that Life is good – that we are loved – and that what we believe we will see – now and always.
Another thought experiment this week – try it.
