Bridge Over Troubled Water

I was recently reminded of the classic song that the title of this blog is named for.  A song of a generation – and artists of a generation that formed my awareness in so many ways.  I find it so interesting that the messages I clung to in earlier days; are not only relevant for now – but have taken on new meaning.

This song was a song about love and friendship to me when I first played it so often, I made additional grooves in the already grooved records.  For those of you who may not know what records are, please google.  The vibration of the music and my fondness for the artists transported me not only to a tearful place but to a place of knowing that somehow someone was always there.  I had just tragically lost my first husband, and this frequency known as music, was part of my solace and journey to healing.

Before I heard it again this past Sunday, I had not thought of this music in many years.  I attended the first reunion tour of the artists in Central Park when I was living in New York City and I was also transported in time to a place of nostalgia ..almost melancholy.  This time when I heard it, it was sung by a different voice and yet I was instantly in the vibration, only this time with a heightened sense of what the song actually means to me now.

I believe these last few years, weeks and months, have been calling for hope and kinship – in a “no matter what” world.  I have felt challenged, startled and yes from time to time, depressed about events and people and the state of things.  And yet, at the same time, reaching for the touchstone of Spirit working its way through our consciousness with the birth of something new.  This time I heard this song as a deep truth of something- when I hit the wall of doubt, I can reach out for what is always by my side.  Through every seeming event predicting “the worst-case scenario” there is a power greater than any event – and it is the Bridge to the new.  For everyone – everywhere.

Humor me as we walk down memory lane, but also reach out for the promise of a Bridge Over Troubled Water.  Thank you S & G for bringing your gifts to the world in song.
