Rise Above

This has been a week of household craziness – from plumbing issues to car problems, it seemed like every time I turned around, I was in the weeds of solving problems and carrying some anxiety along with it.  Then my friends started sharing their challenges – from a dear friend’s loss of her mother to another friend startled by a health challenge.  Another friend told me we were having an astrological event akin to a retrograde and it would all be over by Tuesday.  As I write this blog, it is Wednesday, and I am breathing a sigh of hopeful relief.  Of course, I didn’t even mention the news of the week and by that I mean the global news and events that threaten peace of mind on a 24/7 basis.  I found myself looking for a deeper answer that to “wait til it’s over”.

Answers sometimes come to me through nature – and for this week it was the promise of a sun rise.  Every day without fail – clouds or clear – fog filled or bright shiny sky – the sun is there.  It warms, it welcomes, it shines above all the activity of the earth.  It doesn’t judge – it just rises and sets, in a constant flow of promise and pleasure.

Greater than the sun is our Spirit – the spirit that persists, the spirit that endures, the spirit that cannot be obliterated – no matter what circumstances are presenting themselves.  I have experienced this so many times you would think I would not forget – my bounce back does come faster than it used to – but I may struggle far too long before I rise.  Before the innate nature is again where I put my focus and see the truth of our limitless capability to rise above whatever is happening – to rise above the thoughts that dominate – to rise above the fears that encroach on joy.

One of the greatest examples of my lifetime of this great reminder is in the included video.  I had the privilege of seeing her do this live many years ago at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco.

It brought tears then and it did again as I prepared to write – not because it is sad – but because it is SO true for all of us – for always.  Watch and remember to rise!

Enjoy!
