What you see is what you get
Many years ago I heard Wayne Dyer say that you see what you believe…..It provoked me to pause then and it provokes me now…am I believing what I see or vice versa? We have also known for years that perception is projection…they are the same. When I was growing up my mother loved to watch old movies-I guess they were not that old then…There was a movie that I have never been able to find again or be sure I remembered the title. I do however remember the lesson. It was a love story, and it took place between two people who depicted what we call homeliness or ugliness. They were not Hollywood images of our so-called views of beauty. They were both lonely and felt unloved and unwanted anywhere they went because people moved away from their appearance. They eventually met each other and through a series of events fell in love with each other. At that point, the movie images changed, and they became physically beautiful and handsome and had a glow around them. I have carried that idea throughout my life and found it to be truer as the years passed. When you offer love and acceptance whatever you are looking at appears to change – it softens, it appeals, and you are sure that it always looked that way.
When we believe people are ugly or they have ugly behavior, they have the uncanny ability to show up that way. If you ask Al Capone’s mother what she thought about Al’s actions, she might tell you he just got in with the wrong crowd. His true self was something she could see beyond the story we tell and know of Al. I suppose some of you might be saying but, but, but as you page through people you are sure you see correctly. But are you so sure – can’t you also page through and say “you know I was wrong about Billy Bob – he really is a nice guy.”
As we look out at the world both personal and global, check your perception along side your projection …I am going to wager they line up. Now, use your amazing superpowers to change your mind – look at it a different way (like our sweet kitty above) and notice what happens.
It looks like a miracle…
