Heart Centered Leadership
For me, the new era for humanity calls for a new form of leadership with an emphasis on different qualities and different capacities. If we were to describe the era we are living through; I think it would contain a very masculine energy – a drive to win, achieve, excel at literally any cost. It is more about aggressive action and take charge attitudes- of overcoming and overpowering.
This week statistics were updated to show the degradation in elementary school performance, the upsurge in drug addiction, mental illness and suicide. The material measurements show economic stress, industry problems, literally every system and domain are fracturing and showing signs of breakdown.
At the same time, I listened to a podcast with a 29-year-old millennial dedicated to teaching and sharing the new – the heart centered approach to the world thathis age group is now stepping into. I could hear the passion and purpose in his voice as well as the absolute conviction of what is needed now, to move from the old ways of thinking and operating to the new. He calls himself a heart centered citizen and scientist.
Thanks to the scientific work of Heartmath, Dr. Bruce Lipton, and so many others -the idea of Heart centered (with a capital H) is no longer in the squishy zone of soft skills. It can’t be tossed away as an airy notion of singing kumbaya or hosting a peace protest. It is scientifically known as a greater intelligence with a field of greater influence than the intellectual or mind/brain only impact.
Even better, each person comes equipped with the capacity to utilize this heart field and apply tools to decision making, business building, school violence, addiction, trauma-based experiences and I could keep writing.
What are these qualities we need to focus our energies towards bringing? Here are the ones I am currently delving into and building pathways for development.
Inclusivity – a sense of kinship with everyone
Complete Acceptance – allowing and embracing personalities, points of view, positionalities – in some circles known as unconditional love.
Compassion – boundless in nature and the vibration that wraps itself around the first two.
Extravagant tenderness- a means-a quality that allows us to embrace ourselves as we go through this rough period and offer it to others in meaningful ways.
What are the results we can expect from this shift? Studies have already shown that where a focused effort on the Heart Intelligence was applied, crime rates dropped, emergency room visits lessened, test scores were elevated, a sense of well-being ensued.
For me, the experience trumps the evidence and always has…but for those of you out there that are afraid it might not work; results have been proven.
Next week, I will wrap up this series with some tools, ideas and places to join this effort. In the meantime, please keep your heart open, consider starting a conversation about the importance of this way of being, and know (in your heart of course) that this is the Way.
Peace,
