The only true religion is kindness
The above title is attributed to a quote by the Dalai Lama. It seems the last few blogs have had an overtone of challenge – much of it living in the fire, snow, floods of California. This week we experienced two tragic events – heralding more violence and grief. In times like these, I wonder what is there to do -it can feel overwhelming and hopeless.
But there is always something to do-and it always involves matters of the heart-and that is when the Dalai’s quote came to mind. Kindness for the families who have experienced this pain – kindness for the law enforcement who deals more and more with violence and fear, kindness to the perpetrators who are lost in a reality we can’t see.
I have often thought religion was useless if not relevant and the true religion the Dalai is pointing to – is so relevant.
This week I have been challenged to be kind to myself – to allow myself to need care and understanding even if I am completely off base.
It is sometimes hard to be kind to ourselves-when we are prickly- or when we demand more than someone can give- but that is the moment we lean into extravagant tenderness for ourselves-forgiving ourselves moment to moment while we also forgive everyone everything and always knowing we deserve it – worth every ounce of kindness we can muster.
Please give that to yourself this week and send some my way as well!
Much love to everyone,
