No Exceptions.
When I finished studying for my doctorate, I thought I had just wasted an enormous amount of time, and money. The entire field was predicated on finding out what was wrong with people, identifying a cause and providing a long-term plan of discussing just how many things were wrong with them and why.
I was bitterly disappointed as it seemed to me that reminding everyone of their flaws was not going to incent them to get up in the morning and start working on them. Then of course, there was my own miserable realization there was undoubtedly something wrong with me and I would spend my life working on that as well….in fact, when I finished my own personal therapy program, my therapist advised me I would always deal with my core issue.
Fortunately for me, at that same time, a breakthrough was coming to the world of psychology. There were finally principles to apply to every human being, no exceptions. Prior to that, there were only theories, and they were becoming more numerous by the day.
Here is the base – in every single human being that walks the earth, there is a center of well-being that is not broken, diseased, or unable to realize its innate nature. You can call this center by many names- in mental health, we call it wisdom and well being and it is available 24/7 to guide us to the absolute goodness of every experience.
These past 5 weeks have provided a new level of that for me personally. I broke my arm on the ice at the same time that my husband was experiencing his own crisis and the idea of well-being at my center appeared to be a nice idea for good times. As I moved from the morning of the incident through fear and doubt and surgery, I noticed there remained a core of wisdom that kept showing up as friends, supporters, surgeons, dogs and so on. Much as I tried to squelch it, I could not do it.
I realized much more deeply that it is impossible to squelch what is our true nature- because we did not create that well of being in the first place. It came with our design….yes we do have the power to over-ride it for moments in time, but like a beach ball -it rises to the surface again and again….no exceptions.
Whatever you may be struggling with at this moment, or whatever thoughts are dominating your experience- pause – breathe deeply -you are only one thought away from the wisdom within and it provides everything needed always – NO exceptions. (more on those principles in the weeks to come).
Hear,hear! I have always believed, that no matter how bad life seems to be at the time, I know I am only one thought away from tipping the scale the other way, so of course the only thing to do is to keep trying
