Love is Everywhere
Recently one of my favorite teachers has been giving me exercises in recognizing the Love that is everywhere-the Love that is in me, the Love that is me, the Love that is in each and every one of us in disguise. For some reason, it has been so hard to feel – so hard to imagine and so hard to bring into focus. The harder I tried, the worse it got.
I could say it was nothing in particular or everything in general – a broken arm, a loss of my only sister, a health challenge, a distancing from a Beloved prayer partner, the loss of my dear pet companion (shown above) – it didn’t matter what I said – it all felt lonely and hollow. And though I knew all the things to do to try and mitigate the empty feeling -nothing seemed to work.
This week a dear friend gave me a belated birthday, Christmas and condolences gift. It is a small felt replica of my Kylie Bug (above) and was created from a photo of her- the moment I opened the box, I burst into tears- and sobbed for a good 20 minutes. At the same time that I was doing the ugly cry, my heart was cracking open, I was seeing the Love that was for me, pouring through me , and like a balm out of Gilead, I was suddenly aware of how much love there is everywhere. It’s in the glorious sunny day – in the laughter of a friend – and yes in a valentine of warmth and care.
As we approach Heart day, I recommend moving beyond the Hallmark card occasion and the Whitman’s sampler. Look instead to the way Love has always shown up in your life, in the infinite beings including the 4 legged ones, that Love without expecting anything in return. Then celebrate that all that Love is, both coming to you and from you.
Nothing heals us or moves us, or inspires us, like Love.
Thank you Jana for that wonderful reminder and thank you angel Kylie for being part of that Loving journey.
Happy Valentine’s Day- oh and enjoy the music -flashback from a blog last year.
