Entertaining Angels Unawares-

Of late, I have been wanting angels.  As a child, it was not part of my religious formation…so I really only knew the big guns…the Archangels-Michael-Raphael-Gabrielle and Uriel.  These days it’s the everyday angels…those that help in crisis and those that bless you on your way.

My blog was named for the greatest Christmas movie of all time (to me)…It’s a wonderful life.  An angel plays a key role in that story and ever since seeing that movie as a kid, I have wanted my own angel.  Then there were those years of “Touched by An Angel”- a show I never missed.  Tess, Andrew and Angel girl….all telling everyone that God Loves you Baby!.. I sometimes hear Della saying that in my dreams.

When my father in law was at the end of his life he was mostly alone.  He was in Montana and we were too far away for frequent visits.  He developed pneumonia and on the day of his passing, someone we did not know arrived at the hospital with ice cream.  He sat with my father in law, fed him some ice cream and called to tell us when he was gone.  I always thought of him as an angel- sent at just the right time because we really are never alone.

There are truly angels everywhere…some may be the ethereal type complete with auras.  Some may be creative and dance in the snow as the photo above.  And some, may just bring you chocolate cake when you most need it.   But if you look around and start to feel for that warmth showing up when you least expect it, my guess is that is your angel making an appearance.  They are always around to help, just like Clarence did in the movie by showing George Bailey he was the richest man in town.

I do have a favorite angel – one that makes me smile, and laugh, weep and love more greatly.  He plays Michael but he is John.
