Holy Light -Holy Night-
Regardless of your chosen celebration this season -there are times when the Light gives us a sense of all things sacred. The story of the coming of the Christ child exists in many traditions and myths. Special people show up in the form of wise men and shepherds. Suddenly a star appears in a new place and it is very bright. Individuals and families getting together for a birth or celebrating new life in some form. There is a feeling of holiness that surrounds these events and gives us a feeling of hope and inspiration.
There are holy instants everywhere – and therefore holy light everywhere. Opening a door for someone with too much in their hands – sitting next to someone on a bus or train and engaging in loving conversation – baking delicious treats for neighbors and people who serve us all year long. These are holy moments – moments in which we reach past our concerns and troubles and notice that there is something to give …something to provide…some way to be of help.
Of course any night can be a holy night – it doesn’t have to be December 24 and most probably the Christ child was born in the Spring. But with the solstice as the event of the times- they combined. Just the same, any given Tuesday can be a holy night and we can infuse and create that sense. We have the creative powers to bring Light and Love to any situation we encounter or sponsor. This week I cooked a special Christmas lunch for a friend…put out the Christmas dishes and baked a chocolate lava cake…lit some candles and voila it had a sense of a holy instant filled with laughter and sharing.
As you know, inspiration and sacredness often shows up for me in music…and so of course there is some music to accompany these thoughts. Thanks to my friend Carlton, for turning me on to this group of acapella singers – their voices are definitely showing us a Light beyond form. I wish you all a very Holy season ..where gratitude and Love are the hallmarks of your days and blessings are poured over you in abundance.
With love,
