All Roads Lead to Dog
I have been mentioning for a bit that I have a book coming out in the next few weeks. Its title is the same as this blog. In a way, it’s a play on words..I will let you decide what the play is. The photo that accompanies this blog is a Norwich Terrier…it isn’t mine but I have one that looks very much like this one. (only even prettier) Her name is Rowan and as I type she is looking out the window in high alert squirrel watch. She is about a year and a half in age and is full of life, joy and love. Every morning, she greets me with a kiss and jumps for joy at breakfast and the dawning of Spring in the Sierras.
Over the years, I have had 6 terriers – my wonderful Mikey who most recently went to doggie heaven was a Norfolk terrier – full of that same joy, life and love. Since 1997 these dogs have been teaching me about the things that are truly important – and exhibited the Divine possibilities to me in ways I could only write about and even then words were not sufficient. They accompanied me on 4 big moves including one to Montana – and taught me that love triumphs and is even more powerful than death. Without conditions, they showered me with Love and helped me to find more Love in myself than I ever thought possible.
When my Darling Bill was in his last few days (coming up on a year), I was hovering -asking him if he wanted juice or water or whatever and he spoke with authority when he said…”No -I need you to write your book”….oh dear – I was on the hook after that comment. Our dogs were our entertainment, our solace, our family and taught us both so many lessons.
Some of these powerful lessons are in my book- and they are designed to point to something rich and deep. There is a road that a dog can take you down – its full of wonder, laughter and a point. They showed me that the Source of Life’s goodness is their nature and mine – and I have begun to practice those lessons again and again. Anyone can be on this road – and if your eyes are wide open you will learn from them while they are here and continue to learn when they have crossed the rainbow bridge.
My first teacher was Woofie – I believe in addition to being a canine masterpiece, he was a Buddha dog…sent directly to me – to show me the way. He did so for 17 years and he does so now- in my dreams and in my waking memory moments of absolute gratefulness.
I will announce the book’s availability as soon as I know the firm release date – but in the meantime, consider the messages your pet companion brings you every day – don’t miss them…because they are leading you somewhere – where Love is changeless and Endless. Join me on the road…
There is nothing as precious as the memories and moments spent with our pet children. My life would not be complete without their unconditional love
