Your Better Angels
My religious upbringing did not include much talk or teaching regarding Angels. As a child, I wanted to know all about it and of course have my own personal angel on board. It was easy enough to do – just get a little statue and some let’s pretend moments and I was there. As the years progressed, I began to feel into the essence of angelic behavior and then I saw angels everywhere. Not necessarily the kind in this photo-more of the kind that help rescue dogs or serve at St Anthony’s dining hall.
During these turbulent times we need to get on the side of our better angels…to me that means dwelling on the good by noticing it and appreciating it – calling out those who trample on moments of celebration and criticize everyone but themselves. Better angels listen – they analyze the situations in front of them, they look for the positive and the possible – and avoid the limitations and the lack. Whether you want an Angel like John Travolta playing Michael (an archangel) or you see cherubs at your local church or museum – you keep your eyes out for the presence of light and sure enough you will find an angel lurking somewhere nearby.
Alternatively, you can simply imitate the behavior of an angel and I believe you will find yourself in a starring role as Michael, Rafael, Uriel or Gabrielle. They each had a role we can emulate. Michael is strength for the battle, Gabrielle is a messenger of good things to come, Rafael is the healer and Uriel is the angel of presence and power.
If believing is seeing you will be ready for the season ahead.
And since I am on a music kick, you can use these two angels to cheer you on!
