Sacred Season

The word sacred is often associated with a particular religious group or belief system.  For purposes of this blog, I mean it to be something so special, so filled with spirit – that no one can miss the feeling of being in the presence of something wonder full and joyous.

We are actually in the midst of the sacred in every moment.  I have an amaryllis that is about to bloom, and the bulb suddenly shot out of its waxed covering and appeared to magically grow…a moment of mystery and sacredness.

Seeing the lights of the season – whether from twinkling lights on homes or lighting a Menorah adds meaning and sparkle to the beginning days of winter. Light, as discussed last week, brings the holy into focus and allows us to pause and breathe in the sacred season.

We could easily miss it in the hustle and bustle of packages and gifts….or grow weary if we are bakers or knitters or cooks. Preparing can be so tiring that we miss the moment when heaven and earth are brought together, and we feel it all around us.

The best antidote I know is to breathe and pause – close your eyes for a moment and then let it all sink and soak into your being and remember the child like wonder and joy that fills this time of year.

Pet your dog or cat, if you have one, and notice the calmness that brings while of course, listening to some wonderful holiday music or watching your favorite Christmas movie.

Mine is- It’s a wonderful life, for which this blog is named, and it came about some 5 years ago now during the Covid crisis.  I haven’t missed a Friday and I hope you haven’t either.

This week’s rendering of music is once again that gorgeous sound of Acapella – providing us with a truly sacred piece of music, sent to inspire and delight.

Celebrate the sacred – note its preciousness – and join in on the song.
