The Time Has Come…
The upcoming week is one that will have great historical significance, regardless of the outcome. I frequently am careful how I write these blogs – thinking about everyone’s personal ideas and beliefs, and never wanting to presume, assume, or offend in any way. This week however, I have decided to write from my heart – the actual thing most on my mind, so think of this in that way – and if it brings up any issues for you – just well – let them go.
All of the great spiritual traditions encourage prayer. From the Dalai Lama to Pope Francis, prayer is encouraged for all occasions as well as for troubling times. There are as many forms of prayer as there are cultures and traditions. I don’t think it really matters – what does matter is how your heart reaches out for the answers and how you hold others as you consider this option. This has been and apparently will be – a time of upheaval- a time of conflict – and a time of giant polarities across the world and even more so here at home. The spiritual giants of every time have taught us that opening our hearts to the Divine in all of life is the way to know what is the direction we are intended to go – what is the answer to the dilemma we face – what can we do in such a time as this?
Martin Luther King prayed for freedom – for the dream – Gandhi prayed for wisdom and peace for India- John Lewis prayed for courage and for all his colleagues holding our future in their hands – The Dalai Lama prays for the Chinese even though they removed him from his role in Tibet – Desmond Tutu prayed for all of South Africa during Apartheid. Children are taught to pray before sleep and some people pray before meals. Its all about reaching out to that which is greater than ourselves- and that which is present and never absent.
So this week – pray for our troubled country that somehow we will rise above political unrest – pray for those who are healthy and those who are not and for wisdom and protection for all our health care workers – pray for those you love and as the Maser Teacher taught – pray for those who offend you and irritate you beyond tolerance. Pray for your friends – your pets – for our planet – for rain – for a winter that allows our firefighters to rest for all they have done for all of us this year. Pray for yourself – that the peace you seek is what you find.
Most of all pray to be kind through it all…The song attached to this blog is a very special one to me so I share it and say I am also praying for all of you – for your happiness and joy , your health and wellbeing. May we all be safe through it all.
