Let There Be Light

……..I am reading a fascinating book entitled Luminous Life by Dr.Jacob Israel Lieberman. Dr. Lieberman is an optometrist who began studying eyesight from a very different perspective than correcting or assisting the mechanical eye in seeing more clearly.  Instead he began studying light and like Einstein before him became curious about its origins and effects.  Of course to understand what he found would require your reading the book – so in summary he discovered we are beings of light (before matter and form) and that by focusing on light he improved eyesight for many people up to and greater than 400% (he does include exercises to assist if you are interested.)

It has been said by the wise ones including scientists that darkness doesn’t truly exist…it is simply a matter of the absence of light and as soon as light appears – darkness is no more. Near death experiencers and those who study this (Elizabeth Kubler Ross for one) all mention the Light as part of their experience.  This week has been a particularly stellar one in which the sun and more warmth appeared – as I was going to meetings and seeing colleagues – everyone was talking about the effect of the sun on their mood – and how much happier they were feeling including more optimistic and hopeful about the future. The days of light are getting longer and even my dogs seem happy going outside when the sun is now up ..ahhh perhaps the effects of light.

I have decided that each month this year will now focus on a theme or topic and yes March is the chosen one for light.  I am sure by now you are seeing the metaphor coming your way…what if we bring the light to situations, to dilemmas, to our friends and family members rather than waiting for light to show up.  What if we are naturally designed for light -for the twinkle in our eyes that coins the phrase ..”the eyes are the windows to the soul”…and when they twinkle they are full of light, far beyond but inclusive of their ability to “see”.

At daybreak on the island of Palau in the Philippine Sea, a dance begins.  Millions of golden jellyfish, each the size of a teacup, race east towards the light of the rising sun.  Once they reach the sun’s early morning rays, they halt.  Then slowly, as the sun makes its way east to west, the jellies follow its arc.  As dusk falls these unique invertebrates come to rest on the lake’s western shore.  The following morning, the dance begins again. In addition to jellies, many other creatures – ranging from butterflies to songbirds – take part in extraordinary migratory journeys guided by something outside themselves that is inseparably aligned with something inside of them. It is impossible for them to dance this little miracle without following the light within that leads to following the light of the sun.

This week begin to notice your own light – as the great Master teacher states…”You are the light of the world.”
