Lift off by Letting Go
Many philosophical and spiritual teachers tell us that the work of developing our fulfillment and unfoldment lies largely in letting go. In fact, some say 90% or more of the task at hand is in releasing. What is it we are letting go of? Well in the day to day, it’s the letting go of feelings that disturb, of thoughts that keep running our moment to moment experience. In the moments of silence its letting go of what keeps us from seeing who we truly are…beyond our personalities, quirks, experiences in life – there is something greater and grander.
At least 15 years ago and maybe longer, I came across a process entitled The Sedona Method. It was founded by Lester Levenson who was told he had a few weeks or less to live. So he went back to his Manhattan apartment and determined he would try to see what life means and who he was in life since it was almost over. He discovered what we now call non-duality – or the ability to see his oneness with life – his nature beyond what he thought, felt or did. His health issues resolved and he lived another 40 plus years devoting himself to helping others be free of the obstacles to their own enjoyment of life.
The Sedona Method is both easy and profound. It is as light as letting go of the aggravation of being cut off in traffic, to letting go of long held beliefs and “issues”. Its based on a foundation of self-inquiry that takes a few moments or can be taken into a meditation experience. When I first tried it myself it had an immediate effect – I felt like I had just taken a very deep breath and so of course, I pursued it. As the years have passed, I have used all the techniques that the Method has to offer, learned to facilitate and coach from it, and held it in the background of all the other work I have integrated.
You could call it my go to process of insight, deeper reflection and just plain ease throughout my day. It is a lift to those who try it and for me, it is The Lift that allows me to enter a space of “so whatness” that erases the frustrations of the moment, the day,or the year.

Lift yourself this week and maybe someone else by just letting go (and remember letting go is not giving up or getting over it – its allowing something new to appear in the place of old, stale thoughts).
In this moment – what are you feeling or thinking…the feeling is best – because when released it takes along the thought that provoked it.
Could you, just for now, let that feeling go ? (could you is just are you capable and of course you are)
Would you let that feeling go? (this is the willingness question and can be yes or no)
When? How about now!
Even if you say no to willingness – notice if you feel lighter just the same.
