Self-Care -Who Knew?
July is dedicated to self- care; the deeper kind. With the changes in mobility, we can go to the spa, have a mani-pedi and have a cool summer mojito. And I am not saying that is a bad idea…as the heat once again rises this week in my area, the mojito sounds especially good. But true self- care is taking care of the inner self…the place where peace and true tranquility reside.
Taking care of what soothes the soulful self is not about the external pleasures that do provide a temporary respite from the stresses of everyday life whether that be work or young children or caring for someone who is ill or struggling. Its about knowing what gives us inspiration and energy for the journey.
Each week I will offer something that is a way I care for me…a way I find that place that has more lasting effects and brings me to a deeper or higher level of understanding and wisdom. Wisdom is a faculty that everyone has – but rarely knows about and therefore doesn’t know how to access it. It is in the quiet moments when the mind isn’t chattering, that we can begin to discover that where our wisdom can speak and we can hear it. Just listening to wisdom, before action, can be a total soul make-over.
One place I go for that boost is to music…there are not many types of music that I don’t find uplifting – you already know how I feel about the Boss- but I love classical, jazz, blues – and meditative music. So I will share a favorite from the meditative side – one that helps me remember who I really am and brings me out of whatever mess I appear to be in…I hope you enjoy it.
Take care of you this week by finding the sounds that help you to Rise as Maya said…and Still I Rise,
