Choose Joy
This week marks the beginning of Hanukah and Advent – both seasons of light and the heralding of joy. This has not been a year where a great deal of joy has been expressed, at least not in the media, movies or TV. I have friends who have been indulging in the Hallmark movies as a way of focusing on happy topics and joyful outcomes. It can be hard to fathom that joy is an internal quality that is always with us and does not need to be provoked by a catalyst. There is nothing that warms my heart more than the thought of Hallmark, a company I had the privilege of consulting with for over 12 years. And I also know that my ability to find the Hallmark movies a source of joy, stems from the joy that is already there. Many people would say those movies are just too sweet or corny – obviously their joy is not provoked by that stimulus. Each of us resonates with a different vibration in all aspects of life. It can look so believable that it’s the subject we resonate with and that leads us to being tossed about by the circumstances that we like (where have they gone) and the circumstances we don’t like (when will they be gone)?
The truth is simpler – we can choose joy ahead of the events of our life. The capacity to resonate joy is always with us – like a buried treasure waiting to be discovered. For some the holiday season will bring that into alignment, and for others, it brings sadness or loss. Instead, we can bring the joy that we are to every moment by simply making the decision to do just that, pausing to allow joy to surface in our hearts, and then expressing it in creative and magnificent ways. This can only be experienced by giving it a try. Remember we are not creating joy – we are allowing the joy that we are to be present.
Having said that, here is a little teaser for fun- notice how you respond – decide how you want to respond…but mostly just have some joyful fun!
