You Gotta Have Heart

Welcome To February – the shortest month of the year and jam packed with emphasis on Non-Violence, (Dr. King and Ghandi), Black History Month, Good Heart Health and of course my personal favorite, Valentine’s Day….I try to forget its origins on the Valentine’s Day Massacre.  As you know from previous blogs, I am a certified Heartmath resilience coach, and have worked with Heartmath for over 20 years.  In the Vedic healing system, the heart is the fourth chakra, and fosters the Love that the whole body needs to be in coherence.

We shower the 14th of February with candy, flowers, cards and romantic notions of Love.  All lovely and fun for sure, but at the same time misses the depth and richness of focusing on the heart and sending out Love, compassion and healing to our world.  There is a technique I teach to do that and I recommend for the month of February that we join in this focus and watch the results.

First begin with self-love – lots of talk about it, lots of books about it, but do we yet have it?  I am thinking not so much.  Take a few deep breaths- stretch your arms out to your sides as far as you can reach…embracing all of you in the gesture.  Think of someone that immediately brings warmth to the center of your chest – your favorite song- the face of your pet or someone you love.  When the warmth is secure – bring your arms around yourself in a hug – and send loving energy to every corner of your BodyMind…let it soak in like the warmth of a warm shower.  Breathe through your heart for a minute or so …

Next imagine the world at large – your state, your street – your country – whatever image brings it into focus.  Open your arms again as far as you can and send that warm loving feeling to that image…hold that for a minute or two as well.  Then move into whatever is next – notice your feeling state and watch what unfolds from here.  All this month of blogs will be about the Heart – about its magnificence beyond a pump – and freeing our-selves to be more loving without embarrassment or apology.  Go for it!  And just in case you don’t have an image to warm your heart, I am including one of mine…Sending you love,
