Loving Presence

It has been a while since I wrote anything about Love.  Someone remarked once
…”oh no, not love again.”  At the time, I kind of laughed.  This week, hearing about the situation in Buffalo New York, I decided that perhaps you can’t write about Love too often.  Maybe a new angle on it would be helpful.  A spiritual text I study states that “Everything is Love or a cry for Love.”  Yes, I said everything.

As I mentioned a blog or two ago.. we can frequently treat Love as an object.  We love our families (hopefully), our home, our hobbies – and of course our pets.  This is a beautiful aspect of love, and it is the tip of the iceberg.  Loving presence rests on the state of Love – the energetic vibration of love – that requires no object on which to focus; nor does it require one to ignite the state that we are already anchored in.

Like other things that provoke us to look externally at how to be happy – this one might take a little practice.  Once you begin to realize how easy it is to flip the switch from stress to loving presence – from disappointment to loving presence- from worry to loving presence…you get the idea.

So here are the steps:

1- Think of someone or something you dearly love.  It could even be a favorite place or a cherished memory.  Choose anything that generates the sensation of love within you.
2- As you call up this person or situation that you love, understand that this object of love is actually revealing the vibration of love.  It doesn’t bring love to you- it brings up love within you. It allows you to perceive the love you already have inside you. Nothing can create Love that is not already there.
3- Now fill your heart with this presence- fill your senses with the image and then take your attention to your body.  Sense how you feel inside as you think of this experience.
4- Now- turn up the volume on the experience.  Double it.  Then double it again.  Fill your body with the love that you feel and let it overflow the room.  Make it even bigger until it completely encompasses your concentration.  Memorize how it feels.
5- Now place your hand on your heart and fully receive all the love for you as the subject.
6- Breathe fully for several seconds…Nurture the feeling of unconditional love for several seconds.

When I apply this practice to situations in the world – I give myself a reminder that Love is always a possibility, and it is always present- I only need to focus to shift my perception and see what is mine to do – if anything.

Please give it a try – we all need more Love in our hearts and minds for these times.
