May the Force Be with You

I was a young professional living in San Francisco as the Star Wars phenomena hit the scene.  I had no interest in sci-fi and as hard as it may be to believe, special effects were  not the “thing” at that time.  I was dating a guy who was totally into George Lucas and wanted to take me to see the film.  On the first invite, I declined…take me to dinner instead I insisted.  The second invite I declined, trying to make light of his persistence.  On the third invite, I caved…and off we went to the big theater on Geary St.  I was semi enchanted by Luke Skywalker – more so by Hans Solo- even though many years later I would end up living down the street from Luke’s sister.  (they look very much alike)

At any rate, the lasting impression of movie one, aside from the cast and the cleverness…was that phrase that became a world wide expression and the title of this blog.  May the Force be with you.  I signed up to be a Jedhi knight and in a way, I guess I still am.  Truth be told, the Force isn’t to “be” with us – the Force is us.  It is the energy of source (hey that rhymes) that gives life to all we express and it is an energy that only delivers on the good.  Life is always for us – the Force is always for us – as we know from Alby – “The Universe is a Friendly place”.

There is of course, a catch…or perhaps more than one – we need to be aware of the Force…we need to feel its presence and its grandness.  This morning it began with my Robin singing full on-or in my dog’s happy expression over a new day.  We need to recognize it as we cast our gaze across our lives and acknowledge its awesome power.  Next we have to surrender to it.  I am sure most of us can conjure the scene with Luke being trained by Yoda …the master…and how hard Luke was “trying” to control the Force, or manipulate the Force-all to no avail.  He had to let go and ALLOW the Force to do what the Force does…create…activate…facillitate…all for the highest and the best.

I will always be grateful to George Lucas and my date with Vic- for utilizing their gifts to bring attention to the possibilities in story form.  Although special effects have become more sophisticated – they also cast a darker tone.  In that early work…it was about the triumph of our true selves – greatly needed now.  Each of us can allow the Force to be with us and bring with it peace – compassion and wisdom to deal in these times.

Give it a try this week – share it with someone…send it out on the airwaves.  May the Force Be with you.
