Creative Genius Continues
If you missed last week’s blog or need a refresh, I am sharing the truth that our innate nature is creative and that there is a reliable process to discover that aspect and to express it fully. We began with the foundation that is necessary to start us off in the right direction. That foundational principle is Love. Less about the personal love and more about the universal Love which fosters life and brings the acorn to the oak tree and the rose bush to the rose. When we Love the formless energy that is about to spring into form- we ensure that we are living from our innate nature and expressing what is truly ours.
The next step in the process is Inspiration – more than motivation – more than a great notion – but an idea inspired by the spirit that flows through every man and woman and living thing. I have mentioned in other blogs, that I had the privilege of consulting with the artistic community within Hallmark Cards. For over 13 years, I observed creatives and the creative process when there was high inspiration and when it was stalled. The creative people I engaged with all knew that whether they were writing a card, or drawing a card, something was flowing through them – not from them. The creative process is the so-called how of letting things flow through us.
So we begin with loving the formless energy that is about to burst forth- then we move to the Spirit coming through us -allowing it to direct and guide. As Michelangelo so brilliantly articulated – He saw David in the stone and allowed it to flow into the statue we gaze on in awe. That spirit that revealed David is the deeper meaning of inspiration- and it is available everywhere and to everyone. The only thing that keeps us from it is our thoughts about who is inspired and who is talented and who is more able – when those thoughts drop away there is the ever-present joy of being inspired.
Over the months and now years of this blog, I have often included music that inspires me…that lifts me up and from which ideas often are fostered. An amazing sunrise can do the same thing – or the ocean on a windy day as the waves pour onto the beach -it is literally everywhere- I just need tune my radar to notice what is right in front of me…If you are in the midst of contemplating a creative project or desiring to do so, remember we are not seeking inspiration – we are noticing it and letting it have its way to bring us to the next phase of the process.
Be the inspiration you are this week and here is some creative juice to get you started. This is a piece of music of my generation…and it is being newly recorded in this now moment…a classic from a true song writing genius- with thanks Paul!
