You Never Know-
There is a story that I believe originated with Wayne Dyer – he knew of a woman whose life was changed by the study of meditation and she wanted to write a booklet to share with others to inspire them to meditate. She self-published the booklet and circulated it as best she could but it didn’t have much success. Although she was inspired to write it; she was very disappointed at the result and gave up on any ideas of writing more. Many years went by, and she found herself at a conference where there was a speaker who had been incarcerated in Burma and suffered terror and torture. All she had to foster hope during her imprisonment, was a small booklet on meditation – written by, you guessed it….
Of course, the point of the story is obvious…you never know when you begin something, what path it will take or what the results will be. What do you know – first and foremost you know it was inspired by the feeling you have as you contemplate the action. You know it comes from the heart as opposed to just the head or a lot of rumination and thinking (that comes after you do it). You know that it is intended to create the highest and best outcome for you and all concerned…(I recommend forming that as an intention) and you know it will fulfill something although what may be the mystery.
For years, I carried Murray’s quote with me in my wallet. “ What ever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” William Hutchison Murray I would add to that now, that you never know what will follow your courage. This also includes the so-called chance meeting or the synchronicity of finding yourself somewhere you never planned to go. Sometimes it is something you do that you don’t’ think went very well and then someone shares with you how much it helped them. I recently learned that over 84% of the population would like to write a book and about 7% actually do.
We all know what a stopper fear can be – or doubt – or self-talk. There are modalities out there to counter those limitations that would fill a few libraries and I am certain they all work to a certain extent. For me, the power right now is in the “You Never Know”. I have had so many experiences with that wisdom, that I am now certain it is a catalyst for constant movement. Last year, I considered a training program that required an interview with someone I didn’t really know – and was a tad intimidated by. I didn’t enter the program and didn’t see the interviewer again. Just today, I was once again in her presence – only this time it was to collaborate on a project near and dear to my heart, and I could hear the pins drop on the purpose of our meeting that I never saw coming. Of course, you can hear me say it…”you just never know.”
This week – do that something that you think might not go anywhere – or be useful to anyone – think of the woman in Burma holding on to hope with a tiny booklet written by someone across the world who forged past doubt. Nike was right….Just do it.
As always, such a great reminder.
I can’t wait to hear more about this next project!
