The Four Deadly C’s

I recently had the pleasure of hearing a talk given by Dr. Sue Morter, founder of the Morter Institute and Bio-Energetics.  She is someone to look up as well as read her book on the Energy Codes.

In this talk, she described what I am now calling the four deadly C’s.  Comparing, Competing, Controlling and Condemning.  These four verbs will cause and have caused great suffering. The emphasis I want to place this week is NOT doing these things to yourself.  Pause for a moment and think of someone you have or are currently, comparing yourself to.  Someone’s appearance, someone’s success, someone’s family.  Notice how immediately you feel smaller and there is a sense in the solar plexus of feeling alone.

Perhaps that comparing led you to compete ….to try to always do the right thing…to be as perfect as possible and of course – to try to be always RIGHT.  Notice how that feels…there is a kind of surge of anger or frustration as winning takes center stage.  Soon we are trying to control all the things that affect comparing and competing; we go on a diet, get another degree or certificate, find a way to outdo, outperform and out talk whoever it might be that has struck the chord of who’s on first.

Of course, none of that leads to either winning, coming out on top, or events going as we said they would go.  And what do we do then– condemn everyone involved from our mother’s mistakes in raising us to the foolish behavior we employed and then hated ourselves for.  I am sure by now you have the picture.

As an aside…all these things and more slam the door on the heart and place a bar on the door that requires a bolt cutter to remove.  Suffering, suffering and more suffering.

Here are some things to consider that are the way out.  First, know there is no one like you – and your uniqueness is as beautiful as the snowflakes that never produce two exactly alike.  Next, do everything with Love.  Love your work (even if you find that a challenge) love your colleagues, love the opposing team -from the World Series to the NFL line up for the superbowl.

Then practice letting go…breathe…and release…forgive…open yourself to having it all float away and don’t replay the mistakes you think you made.  Let them inform you – lovingly.

Never blame anyone…especially yourself…..we are all in earth school and the times we live in are rough and challenging and frightening.  Fault brings fear….faith fosters hope and change.

Lastly, bring that loving feeling to your heart center and breathe deeply…let it filter in and flood your system.  Just takes a few moments to bring you back home.

Trust me…I guarantee it!
